This month in the spotlight we are getting to know Stephen, who joined us in May as Operations Consultant.
Q1. What brought you into the world of market research?
A long time ago in a city far, far away...well, Manchester to be more specific, a school friend was working for Scantel International and he told me of an opportunity there.
My first job was a mix of data entry and installing and maintaining a point-of-sale-linked customer counting system. I later moved into data preparation and the rest, as they say, is history.
Q2. If you were stuck on a desert island and you could bring three people to join you, dead or alive, real or fictitious, who would you pick?
I think a musician would be a great companion. Dave Grohl is one of my favourites, but Jimi Hendrix would also be a good choice, not only for their musical brilliance but also for the stories they would have to tell!
Secondly, I would take Beatrix Kiddo from Kill Bill, she’d be able to keep any invaders at bay. Finally, someone to cook us some tasty food would also be handy. I watch a lot of cookery programmes and I think Raymond Blanc would be able to create some tasty dishes from the island’s resources.
Q3. Describe your ideal weekend
Before we had kids we used to do a lot of weekend city breaks. One of my favourite places to visit is Mantova in Northern Italy. A stroll around the historic city centre drinking the occasional espresso and sampling the local food sounds perfect.
I’d then spend the evening driving up to one of the many Italian lakes in my Ferrari (the latter is still a work in progress!)
Q4. Favourite film, book and podcast?
I’m a big fan of horror movies - I grew up watching slasher films in the 80s, like Nightmare on Elm Street, The Burning, Friday the 13th. I generally like anything with zombies and vampires.
I’m not really much of a reader, but I’m currently (still) reading The Storyteller by Dave Grohl. I usually have music on in the background throughout the day but I’m new to podcasts. A friend has recommended I listen to “The Socially Distant Sports Bar”, it’s by three men who talk about sports and everything in between. I still haven’t listened to it yet but I’m planning to.
