We’re very pleased to announce the latest addition to our growing team here at Omnisis - Mike Underwood.
Mike joins as our new Communications Manager and brings to Omnisis Towers a wealth of award-winning communications skills and experience in the public, private and third sectors.
His passion for writing and storytelling began as a 10-year-old in 1986 when he was allowed to stay up late to watch England in the World Cup in Mexico. He was struck by the way the commentator wove such a compelling yarn from the game that Mike set his sights on becoming a journalist.
He eventually graduated from Leeds University with a journalism degree and spent more than a decade as a newspaper reporter and news editor, covering crime and politics in gritty patches including Glasgow, Middlesbrough and Boston, USA.
One of Mike’s claims to fame is that he once made Hollywood hardman Mark Wahlberg cry - although not deliberately.
After leaving newspapers, Mike embarked on a career in PR and Communications, beginning in local government where he developed a passion for creating quirky behaviour change campaigns.
He later moved into the social housing sector where he worked as a Head of Communications for several years before being headhunted to work in the private sector as a European Comms Manager with a global brand. Before joining us, Mike worked in the education sector as a Senior PR & Comms Manager.
Mike is relishing supporting our ambitious and exciting growth plans by amplifying our messaging, raising our profile in the right places, helping us connect more with our target audiences and enhancing our reputation through media relations, social media, stakeholder communication, copywriting and marketing.
When not creating comms for us, Mike writes screenplays for fun, watches Nottingham Forest (through tears of desperation), plays bass and guitar in a band, loves a good horror movie and a binge-worthy box set.
By the way, yes, Mike wrote this :-)
